The Gravity of Silence (2026)
for an arbitrary number of performers and a sound designer
The Gravity of Silence is a performative sound composition about departure, loss, and the transformation of the personal into the collective. At a time when suitcases are once again a symbol of necessity rather than choice, the work opens up a space to listen to that which usually remains unsaid.
It consists of three movements. The nucleus of the third movement was conceived during the working process with Dejan Srhoj as part of the project Evening of Dance Solos II.

A sound touches the edge of silence.
When sound disappears, a space remains, pulling us in.
Silence reveals its weight.

The new musical work The Gravity of Silence enters into a connection with the body of work by Srečko Kosovel. Marking the centenary of the poet's death, the event is conceived as a sonic reflection—it does not turn to his poetry as text, but rather as a sonic idea. This is not an interpretation, but a response. The central focus is on establishing a musical language that ponders the fundamental tensions of Kosovel's oeuvre: the rift between order and decay, between the vision of construct and the force of collapse, between inner urgency and aesthetic experiment, between utopia and destruction.
When the performers leave the space, the sound remains.
When the sound dies down, a question remains: Who left—and who is listening?

silenced violence,
traumas left unspoken,
personal stories fading from public discourse,
the weight of the unsaid,
bodyless sound,
a trace without an author,
presence without being present,
a power that turns the body into absence, yet keeps it perceptible,
a silence we run from, fill with interpretations, project our fear into,
silence as the normalization of violence,
numbness,
habituation to the sound of catastrophe,
silence stretching time,
erasing linearity,
creating a sense of waiting without a goal, an arrival, a return.

The Gravity of Silence as a threat, a testimony, an erasure of the subject, leaving only traces.
