On the occasion of the Koper Biennial of Contemporary Music the association »Društvo prijateljev glasbe« is launching the 3rd INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION. The international composition competition for chamber works will be open to composers of all nationalities, with no age restrictions. Its aim is to encourage and promote musical creation. The three best pieces chosen by the jury will be performed at a concert held in Koper (Slovenia) in autumn 2019.

I. Conditions for entry:
There are no age limit or nationality restrictions for composers.
The entry fee is 50€ and the payment must be addressed to:
Društvo prijateljev glasbe, at the bank: Intesa Sanpaolo Banka Koper,
IBAN: SI56 1010 0003 5482013; SWIFT: BAKOSI2X; specifying: composers name/entry fee 2019.

Instruments: the compositions submitted for the competition must only use the following instruments:
- Clarinet in B-flat (single performer)
- Violin (single performer)
- Violoncello (single performer)
- Piano (single performer)
It is possible to use different combinations (min. of 2, max. of 4 instruments, freely chosen).
The works duration must be between 3 and 7 minutes. The scores must be unpublished and must have never been performed in public, broadcasted and/or awarded a prize in another competition.  
Scores (5 copies) must be signed with a pseudonym and accompanied by a sealed envelope, bearing the same pseudonym and contain: a signed copy of the application form, a short description of the work (in English, Italian or Slovenian), an artistic and academic curriculum vitae and a copy of the statement proving that you have paid the entry fee.

Deadline for entries: the scores and the enclosed documents
must be sent by 12th September 2019 (certified by the post office stamp) to the following address:
Društvo prijateljev glasbe, Gallusova ulica 2, 6000 Koper, Slovenia.


Each composer can submit more than one work to the Competition, provided that separate registration is compiled for each entry (together with the relative registration fee).
Scores submissions via fax or e-mail will not be accepted. Scores will not be accepted if they differ even marginally from the possibilities listed above.
The scores will remain in the archive of the Koper Biennial of Contemporary Music.
The entry fees are non-refundable.
The results of the COMPOSITION COMPETITION will be published on the Biennial website (www.bienalekoper.com). The winners will be contacted by e-mail and invited to the concert.

II. Awards
The compositions will be judged by renowned musicians.
All participants can attend the workshops on contemporary music held in Koper during the winners concert, without paying any further registration fees.
The jury will select 3 compositions from the submitted compositions, that will be performed in Koper (Slovenia) in Autumn 2019.
The 3 chosen composers will be given an opportunity to be actively involved with the performers during the preparatory stage (through a workshop). Their accommodation in Koper will be covered.
The concert will be recorded by Radio Koper: the winner composer will also receive a professional recording of their own piece.
During the concert we will award the prize for the best piece. The winner will be commissioned a piece for quartet, which will be performed during the Koper Biennale 2020 by Helena Winkelman, violin, Michele Marelli, clarinet, Francesco Dillon, cello, Emanuele Torquati, piano; and a money prize.
The jury may also assign other awards or no award at all.
